I had the great honor of presenting at Albizu University to practicum students—an incredible group of future clinicians. We explored the Tools of Triumph:
• designing their vocational dream
• Deciding/Action for their dream
• Befriending their fears
These aren’t just concepts—they’re practices. I had so much fun showing students how to guide their future clients through these tools, but even more importantly, we talked about the need to embody these tools themselves.
When clinicians live the work, they show up more grounded, authentic, and prepared to lead others through transformation.
A standout moment came when a student asked, “How should we work with clients who haven’t had the same privileges as we’ve had? The school reminds us of that a lot” . I pointed back to one of the slides that said:
“We are more powerful than any situation, condition, or circumstance.”
I reminded them that our past does not define our future—our future is designed by the thoughts and choices we make today. That message is one we must believe for ourselves before we can help others see it, too.
Thank you to Dr. Barroso for inviting me, and to Dr. Gomes for welcoming me into your class. I’m excited to see how these students take what they’ve learned and turn it into healing for others.
